How do I register a domain name?




From anywhere on the WHMCS page:

Select the "Home" link on the far left of the navigation menu towards the top of the page. This will bring you to the front page, where a prominent "Choose a Domain..." section will appear.

From the front page (titled "Portal Login") for MAIN's WHMCS, use your cursor or keyboard to select the bar that reads "eg.yourdomain.com", underneath the "Choose a Domain..." section. Type the domain name you want, then press the "Enter" key or select the "Check Availability" button below the bar.

The Domain Checker page will load and show whether the domain name you requested is available to register or purchase. If the domain name is not available--for example, if someone else has registered the page--you'll see "Sorry! your_domain.net is already taken!".

But if the page *is* available, you'll see the message "Congratulations! your_domain_name.net is available!" To the right of the avaliable name you'll see a drop-down bar, under the "More Info" heading. Use this bar to select how long you'd like to register the name. By default the name will be registered in your name for a year, but use this drop-down menu to select a longer time if you'd like. Select the "Order Now" button to begin registering the domain name through MAIN. The Domains Configuration page will appear, asking you which name servers you'd like to register the name with. By default, MAIN's name servers will appear. It's fine to leave this alone, but you can add or change name servers if you'd like.

**What's a 'nameserver' or 'name server'? You don't need to know to register a name, but here's some background. A name server is just that--a server connected to the internet that provides a "name" for websites. All websites have an Internet Protocol orĀ  "IP" address, which is a string of numbers separated by periods and colons. Name servers provide what 'human-readable' versions of websites, making it easier to remember and talk about the site you want to visit.

From the Domains Configuration page, select the "Update Cart" button. You'll see an "Order Summary" page, listing the items in your shopping cart. From this page, you can input a Promotional Code. You can select the Empty Cart button to clear items, or Continue Shopping to ....
Select "Checkout" to proceed with your purchase, where you will input your billing details and complete the order. Before doing so, please read the section below!

PLEASE NOTE:
By default, a web name will be registered in the name of the person whose contact information you enter into the "Your Details" section of the page.

BY DEFAULT, YOUR NAME, TELEPHONE NUMBER, EMAIL AND ADDRESS WILL BE PUBLICALLY LISTED ON DOMAIN NAME SERVERS. Please note that your payment information will not appear. If you would to avoid listing your personal contact information, under the "Domain Registrant Information" section of this page, select "Add New Contact" from the drop-down menu. The information you then enter under "Domain Registrant Information" will appear on the name server. Please note that domain name servers will permit you to provide minimal registration information.
